Millage helps Brevard Public Schools continue offering programs that keep students learning, engaged, and prepared for the future. This is not a new tax.

It helps fund music programs in our secondary schools, providing students with opportunities to develop their talents through band, chorus, orchestra, and other performing arts experiences.

At Jefferson Middle School, millage funding helped support our orchestra program by providing new instruments for our student musicians. These resources allow student musicians to learn, perform, and grow.

Participation in music education builds creativity, discipline, teamwork, and confidence while helping students develop skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

The Sales Surtax renewal is paid for by everyone who shops in Brevard and funds safe, well-maintained schools. This is not a new tax.

It funds secure buildings, facility investments, and technology infrastructure — the physical spaces students learn in every day.

This year at Jefferson Middle School, that meant a beautiful fresh coat of paint throughout the school and new, bright LED lighting in our classrooms giving our school a clean, fresh look to welcome our students.

The Sales Surtax allows Brevard Public Schools to make these needed improvements, ensuring students and staff learn and work in safe, comfortable, and resilient buildings — year after year.

Millage allows Brevard Public Schools to provide teacher salaries that remain competitive with surrounding counties and reflects our commitment to investing in fair, competitive teacher pay.

This is not a new tax. The millage is a renewal of an existing local funding source that helps support teacher salaries and school operations throughout Brevard County.

A portion of millage revenue is dedicated to supporting teacher compensation, helping fund the educators who teach and support students across our district.

Millage is one of the local funding sources that helps Brevard Public Schools invest in its workforce and continue supporting classrooms throughout the county.

Surtax funding strengthens school safety by providing the physical security tools schools rely on every day.

This is not a new tax. The Sales Surtax is a renewal of the existing half-cent sales tax that helps fund safe, maintained, and modern school facilities.

One example is OpenGate weapons detection. Already installed at all high schools in Brevard Public Schools, OpenGate is scheduled to expand to every middle school during the 2026-27 school year through Surtax funding.

These systems create safer entrances, allow for faster threat detection, and enhance security while minimizing disruptions to the school day.

Surtax ensures Brevard Public Schools can continue investing in safety upgrades that help protect students and staff.

This November, two local funding measures are on the ballot. Neither are new. Both are already
in place.

Earlier this week we shared about Sales Surtax.

The second measure on November's ballot is the Millage — a property tax renewal that funds
the teachers, programs, and technology that make learning happen every day in Brevard County
classrooms.

Millage is the small portion of property taxes that stays right here in Brevard County, locally
approved by voters to directly support Brevard Public Schools. Every dollar collected goes to the
people and programs inside our schools.

Millage funds three things: employee pay, essential programs, and classroom technology.
